Kenya's biggest telco, Safaricom, on Tuesday unveiled a new logo for it's famous mobile money offering M-Pesa.
The company teased the M-Pesa re-brand on social media ahead of an official reveal event which began at 10:00 AM.
It is the first time the groundbreaking service is changing it's logo since it was launched in March 2007.
CEO Michael Joseph unveiled the new logo, which he disclosed would be in use for the next seven days.
The new logo honors World Marathon record holder Eliud Kipchoge ahead of his quest to break the 2-hr mark for a marathon run in Vienna, the INEOS 1:59 Challenge on a date to be announced between October 12-14th.
The new logo has 159 inscribed on the 'm-pesa phone'.
Since it launched in Kenya, M-Pesa has practically transformed the Kenyan economy while doing wonders for Safaricom's bottom-line.
M-Pesa hit 30 million users in March 2019 and is now available in several other countries.
Kenyans were caught by surprise as they expected an actual logo change, but soon gave props to the company for rallying behind Kenya's iconic athlete.
Kipchoge is already in Vienna for the highly anticipated race in which he could write history.
Safaricom also revealed a free Youtube pass that would be made available for Kenyans to follow the race.
