Kenya's biggest telco Safaricom on Wednesday marked it's 19th year of operations by finally allowing users to purchase bundles that don't expire.

By dialing *544#, users will be able to purchase non-expiring data bundles and also get to decide the specific amount they want to spend.

Packages for calls and SMS also featuring no expiry date were also made available.

Tha various expiring bundle packages are still available but are featured less prominently.

The announcement was made by Safaricom CEO Michael Joseph who spoke at an event on Wednesday morning.

Users were also able to hear directly from the CEO by dialling 133, with a recorded message playing.

"We believe that we should and can serve you better by being simple, transparent and honest," he stated.

Kenyans online who have for long spoken out against the expiry of bundles were excited by the news, appreciating the company for finally taking heed.

Coincidentally, the news came a day after Safaricom and Airtel, two of the leading telcos, were sued over the controversial matter of expiring data bundles.
