It's official, SWAT Mtoto wa Eunice is the latest Kenyan artist to sign with Black Market Records (BMR).

Sources close to the artist told Loud.co.ke that the deal was signed in January 2021, although details of the contract remain undisclosed.

The American label has signed several Gengetone artists in recent years; including Boondocks Gang, Joefes and Sailors Gang.

SWAT, one-fourth of Ethic Entertainment, has already released his first single under the label; Utabaki alongside Nastie Nastie. It was released on Swat's all-new Youtube channel created after he signed to BMR.

Utabaki is a Gengetone banger produced and directed by Cliff Mastermind, featuring SWAT's famous Sheng' flows and vibes from Nastie Nastie as well. It was recorded before SWAT signed the BMR deal.

Since the emergence of Gengetone pioneers Ethic Entertainment with Lamba Lolo in 2018, SWAT has undoubtedly been a fan favorite.

The group, signed to Universal Music Group (UMG)-owned AI Records, has slowed down on new releases since their Big Man Bado Odinare album was launched last year.

Rekles, another popular member of the group, has also found success as a solo artist thanks to hits such as Sota which features Mejja.

Rekles also signed a solo deal with record label House of Badass.

Despite murmurs that the group had broken up, they have insisted on previous occasions that members were able to work on solo projects while remaining part of the unit.
